Recalling the past, they gloat over their crimesĭemos and Re-pubs, all make the same sound They meet on Fridays to sneer, and compareĬrowding the tables, and slurping their wines Some are simply up to no good and are involved in recruiting the locals to fundamentalist religious cults, child molesting, paedophilia, smuggling, property fraud, document forgery and drug dealing, while others prefer child trafficking, running prostitution rings, drug production, trafficking and collecting rewards for turning people into the Marshall’s Office in the US, to name but a few of their activities.Īs a tribute to the “Expats” I have met in Antigua Guatemala over the years, I wrote this poem, which I have subsequently recorded as a song, and is available on my YouTube channel: It’s a place where “Expats” can re-invent themselves and become something they never were.
